Anger often masks other emotions
Children who are often disrespectful and angry may be perfectionists—and do well academically. Or, they may show their anger and disrespect by doing poorly in school. Anger and disrespect are often a cover for other emotions, such as fear or frustration. If your child's behavior has become defiant, think about what's changed in your student's life. Ask, "Is anything bothering you?" and say you want to help. Then, talk about how to behave appropriately when emotions are overwhelming.
