Do your consequences still fit your child?
Discipline is most effective when rules and consequences are clearly spelled out. But consequences should be reassessed and updated as your child grows. Two areas that may need tweaking are time-outs and loss of privileges. Saying, “Go to your room” may not have much impact if your child’s room is full of entertaining activities. Try the couch instead. And be sure that any privileges lost are ones your child still cares about.
