Superintendent of Education
Mr. David Baggett is a dedicated leader with 28 years of experience working within the field of education, with 24 years focused in administration. He has held various roles throughout his career, including Teacher, Coach, Assistant Principal, Principal, and Assistant Superintendent. Over the past three years, he has served as an Assistant Superintendent in the Jackson County School District. Prior to his tenure with JCSD, he served as an Assistant Superintendent in the Starkville Oktibbeha School District.
Throughout his career, Mr. Baggett has achieved many leadership accomplishments. He was honored as Teacher of the Year at Pecan Park Elementary and Administrator of the Year for the Ocean Springs School District. He successfully implemented an International Baccalaureate Program, played a significant role in the design, construction, and opening of Ocean Springs High School, and led the successful integration of East Oktibbeha High School, West Oktibbeha High School, and Starkville High School. He also facilitated the design, construction, and opening of the Starkville Oktibbeha/Mississippi State University Partnership School. Mr. Baggett has also served on the Mississippi Principal's Advisory Committee for MDE (Mississippi Department of Education). Furthermore, he has been involved with the Mississippi State University Internal Review Board Committee as an advisor and successfully completed the Mississippi School Board Association Superintendent Leadership Academy.
Mr. Baggett earned a Master's Degree in Educational Administration from the University of Southern Mississippi. He also holds a Bachelor of Science in Education, which he obtained from Mississippi State University. Mr. Baggett is a graduate of Ocean Springs High School.
Mr. Baggett is committed to serving the students of Jackson County School District as their ambassador in all aspects of the student experience. He will keep the best interest of all students as the determining factor for his decisions impacting the Jackson County School District. As superintendent, he understands the important symbiotic relationship between successful communities and schools and pledges to provide the following for his students, employees, and community:
- Safe and orderly schools
- An enriching curriculum that supports academics, arts, and athletics
- A culture and climate that will allow teaching and learning to thrive for students and staff
Outside of his professional endeavors, Mr. Baggett is actively engaged in his community. He has volunteered as a youth soccer, football, and baseball coach and has supported the high school band and football booster organizations. He has also dedicated his time to volunteering with the Salvation Army. In his personal life, Mr. Baggett enjoys spending quality time with his wife Cynthia and their four children, Janey, William, Kaytelin, and Bishop. He also appreciates and enjoys nature and outdoor activities.
