Hola todos! Hello everyone!
Thank you for dropping in. I have been teaching at East Central for several years, and enjoy every moment spent encouraging students to broaden their horizons through learning a second language. I teach because I had a teacher who encouraged me to learn a second language. That encouragement led me on an unimaginable journey. I studied at the University of Southern Mississippi earning a Bachelors of Arts in Spanish in 2014. After spending a year managing a Mexican restaurant in Wiggins, MS, I returned to Southern Miss in 2016 to continue my education as a part of the Masters of Arts in the Teaching of Languages program with a dual emphasis in the teaching of Spanish and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL).
Through travel and interactions with Spanish language, culture, and community I have continued to grow in language proficiency and teaching methodology. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my pets, my dog Oso and cat Kevin, as well as, listening to live music, spending time with my family, dancing, reading, eating in our local Hispanic restaurants, and traveling. My favorite city is Cadiz, Spain, a small southern city on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea. Other Spanish speaking countries that I have had the opportunity to visit are Peru, Mexico, and Bolivia. Being a Spanish teacher means that professional development can occur in amazing parts of the world as I travel during the summer. I enjoy bringing my real-life experiences to the classroom. I’m thankful for the opportunity to develop relationships with the students I teach and see them grow into amazing adults who are impacting the world around them.
