Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 prohibits discrimination against persons with a handicap in any program receiving Federal financial assistance. No discrimination against any person with a disability will knowingly be permitted in any of the programs and practices of the Jackson County school system. To ensure the District's compliance with Section 504 as it applies to students with handicaps, procedures have been adopted.
JACKSON COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT 504 Procedures
The Jackson County School District will not discriminate on the basis of disability in admission or access to, or treatment or employment in its program and activities to the extent provided by law.
The person holding the position of Director of Student Services and Federal Programs has been designated as the Section 504/Americans with Disabilities Act Coordinator and will handle inquiries regarding the Jackson County School District’s nondiscrimination policies, the filing of grievances, and requests for copies of grievance procedures covering discrimination on the basis of disability:
Section 504/ADA Coordinator:
Director of Student Services & Federal Programs
Mrs. Kimberly Williams
4700 Colonel Vickrey Road
P.O. Box 5069 Vancleave, MS 39565-5069
Each School has a Team in place to review all 504 requests. Parents should contact the principal of their respective schools if their child has a disability, which substantially limits the student’s ability to learn (and the student is ineligible for services under IDEA).
