  • Welcome from the JCSD Curriculum Department. 

    Our school district is pleased to provide a streamlined, systematic instructional program, including resources and professional development opportunities to our teachers and staff members. Our ultimate goal is to encourage all students to realize their full academic potential and to prepare them for success in the modern workforce.

    This department is responsible for leading and facilitating Kindergarten through 12th Grade curriculum in all subjects for our enrollment of approximately 9,500 students. More specifically, we organize and coordinate the professional development program, provide and support instructional resources, lead the creation of the Dropout Prevention Plan, facilitate and provide resources for online learning, lead the development of high school district assessments, coordinate the district Reading Fair, partner with instructional consultants, leverage teacher-composed curriculum committees to develop and implement instructional pacing guides, provide curriculum support for administrators, relay pertinent information from the Mississippi Department of Education (MDE), prepare and present data and accountability reports, ensure compliance with MDE-mandated instructional accountability standards, and other curriculum-related endeavors. 

  • Cursive Handwriting

    Mississippi Legislature passed Senate Bill 2273 effective on July 1, 2017, mandating a handwriting assessment for students by the fifth grade.  The standard course of study shall include the requirement that the public schools provide instruction in cursive reading and writing, implemented across the curriculum, so that students create readable documents through legible cursive handwriting by the end of the fifth grade.  Also required is that students pass with proficiency a teacher-constructed test demonstrating the students' competency in reading and writing cursive.
